His Majesty the King of Spain has visited one of Gestamp’s facilities in Beijing (China) as part of the State visit to the country taking place this week. This factory exemplifies Gestamp’s growing story in China, as it is part of the Joint Venture with BHAP -the component subsidiary of the BAIC Group- established in 2018. The strategic partnership allows Gestamp to provide the best technological and innovative solutions to vehicle manufacturers in the electrification context the automotive sector is living through.

On a plant tour lead by Francisco J. Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp, the King Felipe VI had the opportunity to know in deep the capabilities and technologies used to manufacture products like assembled components and battery boxes for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) such as BBAC (Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd)– joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BAIC Motor-, Li Auto and Xiaomi Auto.

“Alliances and partnerships have strengthened our commercial projects in China, especially in the EV market, which have demonstrated its capabilities to boost the market. We have a success story here, an experience that allows us to provide our clients in China and abroad with our best technological and competitive solutions,” said Francisco J. Riberas.

Riberas explained that, since the start of its operations in the country, in 2007, Gestamp has developed a strategic and competitive business model based on two main pillars: innovation and proximity to its clients wherever they operate. Concretely, through its R&D capacities, Gestamp enhances production efficiency, agility, optimize costs and assembly time, and reduce component weight without compromising safety, contributing to the development of the new electric mobility era.

Francisco J. Riberas told that this business model has enabled the multinational to become a high-value technological partner for automakers in China and around the world, being competitive in the key region driving the transformation of the automotive sector.

During his tour, His Majesty the King of Spain, accompanied by Riberas and the management of the production facilities—which cover more than 60,000 sqm—, learned about the state-of-the-art welding and joining technologies that are used to assemble components key structural components for electric vehicles.


Gestamp in China

This official visit highlights Gestamp’s commitment and positive trajectory in establishing China as a key country in the business strategy, considering that it is the largest market in the automotive industry in terms of production.

Over these 18 years, Gestamp has demonstrated agility and competitiveness in all its production plants thanks to its innovation, commitment, cutting-edge technologies, and operational digitalization capabilities. The company began its activity in the country with the opening of a 30,000 sqm plant in Kunshan and today has 13 factories totaling more than 400,000 sqm of production capacity.

Besides, Gestamp counts with two R&D centers, one in Kunshan and other in Shanghai. These local innovation and research capabilities enable the multinational company to be a strategic partner for innovating and co-developing with automotive manufacturers the best engineering solutions for electric mobility.

Between 2021 and 2024, Gestamp’s revenues in the country have grown by 80%, making the country—with 5,199 employees at the end of 2024—one of its three most important markets. Specifically, Gestamp’s sales in the country in 2024—the latest full fiscal year—reached €1,628 million, representing 14% of its global sales.

Since the start of its operations in the country, the multinational has focused on implementing its cutting-edge technologies, such as hot stamping, which is key to improving mobility in terms of sustainability and vehicle safety. Specifically, Gestamp has deployed a total of 17 hot stamping lines in China to provide its customers with the most advanced technological and engineering solutions.
